About me

“My hand tells me what I’m thinking” Pablo Picasso

Picasso’s words ring so true for me, as the movement of my hands have always been key in my life to communicate - both as an artist as well as in my professional life when working within the Deaf Community as a BSL Sign Language Communicator.

Though I have painted all my life it wasn’t until during the Covid Pandemic in 2021 I consciously decided to give up my full-time job, and embrace each day as a full time artist. Since then I have exhibited all around the South West of England and specialise in Abstract and semi abstract paintings in mixed media. Based in Gloucester, I love creating work that is familiar yet abstracted, using movement and mark making in layers, experimenting with different mediums. My time in my studio is a moment just for me to connect to my inner self and find what I want to communicate through my hands - and I am loving learning, reflecting, and exploring; whilst fully embracing my journey as an artist.

“The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from the scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.” Pablo Picasso

Living on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds I am influenced by the countryside around me, taking visual clues from natures forms, colours, and textures, as well as taking inspiration from the movement of plants. I also have a deep love of language and am constantly inspired by poetry and words, which can be seen in some of my abstract artwork.

As a contemporary artist I emotively interpret the world around me, using intuitive marks and lines to illustrate movement, light, and texture; working mostly in Acrylic, inks, pastels, and charcoal. My first passion is abstract art because it evokes a pure and instinctive reaction from the viewer, and I am fascinated by Abstract Expressionism - an art style that focuses on spontaneous bursts of emotion and intuition. I love that how you apply paint can capture the essence of a scene. My hopes for the future are to continue to grow as an artist and look for opportunities to exhibited around the UK and Internationally.

For me art and the process of art making at is healing and I firmly believe that there is a hidden artist in everyone just waiting to emerge. Recent world events have proven that there are many positives for either creating art or having art in a person’s life. So grab a pencil or brush and be what you want to be.
